Basic and Math:
I thought I would help set things straight and end rumors spreading around the server about actual time settings.
So, xDK has said in the past that there is/will be time progression, and character age progression.
BUT we do not really have an official way to set this up.
So, I did some simple math and using the new 45 min day 20 min night Minecraft time cycle that xDK set up, concluded that there is approximately 22.1538461538 Minecraft day/night cycles in one real 24-hour day.
Some admins have suggested that one real life day should be one in-game month.
>This is a bit of a over do, as good heavens time would be progressing fast and it would be hard to rp that, especially with players being inactive for like a week, and missing almost a year of time.
Others have said that maybe a week (7 days) of in-game time would be one real life day. This is a little bit more realistic for a group of people with their own lives and everything.
>However, how do we explain on game day and night cycles? Kind of becomes a problem.
SOLUTION?:
I suggest a nice round 18 day/night cycle change for 24 hours, instead of ~22 cycles.
>This would mean longer days and nights, but it would help set a realistic tone. Day and night would need to be split out of 80 total minutes in order for this to become an accurate time measurement (40/40 50/30 60/20 etc.).
xDK would reset the time settings to this new time frame of his choice, and we would all have a nice reference for the passing of time.
Current Recap:
1 IRL Day would be 18 RP In-game Days
Minecraft Day/Night Cycle would need to be set to 80 minutes total.
Minecraft Day/Night Cycle would become LORE for tracking time.
Basically 1 YEAR in-game RP would be equivalent to ~20.3 days in real life.
Other Suggestion(s):
Setup a simple time plugin which tracks the day of the week. That way we know if its Monday, Tuesday, etc. in game without using irl day of the week to correlate.
-more may be requested in the comments-
End Comment:
I know this may all sound complicated and annoying in the long run, but come on; this is a "Hardcore Roleplaying Experience." This will help us all manage our characters better, and allow for them to progress naturally. It is only a win in my eyes.
>My suggestion of 18 in-game days is because it is a solid WHOLE number divided out of 1440 minutes (24 hours). It just helps keep things organized and neat. If you feel like there should be more days in a irl day, then I suggest raising the minutes in a Minecraft day to compensate and help people track time (or vise-versa).
>>Also, I know that 24 hours isn't exactly accurate to the EXACT amount of time in a day, but idk how accurate settings up Minecraft time settings are. Perhaps 18 should be set to 17.95125.
Thanks.
