Dragons:
History:
Millennia ago, the dragons ruled over the island of Heonia. The dragons were created after the chaotic events that shook the world. The dragons believe that their creator made them with the sole purpose in mind to protect Heonia and all the magical creatures who took refuge there. With their powerful, innate ability to command magic, they created barriers around the island. All of the magical beings living on the island had their populations controlled so that way there would be an even balance between all species. For over 200 000 years, these dragons maintained the peace around the island. Eventually, there was a disagreement between the dragons. There were the dragons who believed that power and strength should be established and that it was better to tell the species what to do without question. Then there were the dragons who believed in wisdom and intelligence and believed that the species should be controlled through teaching and understanding instead of dominance. This is what lead to the millennium war between the two groups of dragons, who were referred to as "Fire Dragons" and "Ice Dragons". Naturally, the Fire Dragons chose the volcanoes of Heonia as their base of operations, while the Ice Dragons picked the snowy plateaus. The dragons fought against each other perilously. The Fire Dragons would normally pursue an attack while the Ice Dragons would stand guard and fight back. It was complete and utter chaos. The dragons nearly destroyed the entire island, as well as themselves. At the end of the war, there was only a handful of dragons then there were before. Because of this, their creator put them to slumber. The Fire Dragons were put to sleep in the centre of the volcanoes while the ice dragons were laid to rest atop the snowy plateaus and were covered by layers and layers of snow. It took another millennium before Heonia was back to its former glory. The creator of the dragons made it so that if the island was ever in grave danger, the few dragons left would rise from their sleeps to fight once more. Fortunately, there were magical beings who survived the onslaught of the dragons on Heonia. These were the ones that were capable of surviving without the help of the dragons.
Physiology:
Dragons are tremendously large reptilian creatures around the size of a house. They are covered in scales, and have wingspans equal in length to their bodies. Dragon scales are as tough as Iron, and the scales are layered on top of one another. However, they have soft underbellies, and their scales are not invulnerable to magic attacks. Dragons are completely immune to all diseases and poisons. Each dragon also possesses a bit of arcane material within them. That is what allows them to have their breath attacks, use incredibly magics, and communicate with one another. It's also what keeps them from being crushed under their own weight. As long as a dragon isn't killed, they can live forever and continue to breed dragons, though an egg only hatches one thousand years after fertilisation. After that, it takes ten thousand for them to reach full maturity. Dragons can see clearly for miles. They also feel vibrations in the air so they can manoeuvre in complete darkness.
Culture:
Dragon culture has always been about honour and honesty. If a dragon did not like another dragon, or did not like another dragon's actions, they would normally challenge the dragon, or approach the dragon and exclaim their feelings. This debate between what was more honourable (power or wisdom) is what lead to the splitting of the dragons. Every five thousand years, the dragons elect one dragon to be their leader. This leader or "The Grand Elder Dragon" would coordinate the dragon's efforts as well as oversee everything on the island. The death of the 40th Grand Elder Dragon after he was challenged is what instigated the millennium war. Dragons communicate telepathically. This means that the dragons do not have a written language. Since their memories are vast, none of their existence was ever recorded or written down. Though dragons may fight with each other often, a common threat will almost certainly unite two stubborn dragons together. The dragons also all worship what is only known as "The Creator". They do not know what the creator looks like, who it is, or what its intentions were with creating the world. They only know that their purpose is to protect the island with their lives.
